HospitalsDr. Y. Mahadeva Iyer founded Sri Sarada Ayurvedic Hospital in the scenic village of Derisanamcope in 1920. Dr. Mahadeva Iyer himself spent more than 50 years treating patients till his demise in 1980. The tradition of sastra-based approach in treating the patients is being carried forward by his nephew, Dr. S. Ramakrishnan, his grandsons Dr. K. Chidamabaram and Dr. L. Mahadevan.
The hospital was established in 1920 by Dr.Y.Mahadeva Iyer, who was a highly acclaimed physician, a great sanskrit and vedic scholar. He loved Ayurvedic science and was a master in Ayurvedic Samhitas. This hospital continues to thrive under the expertise of the family members of Dr.Y.Mahadeva Iyer.
Doctors:
Dr.L. Mahadevan has got a practice in Chennai. He visits Chennai periodically. So he will not be present throughout your stay during your admission in the hospital. The treatment will be decided by him and executed by his well trained juniors. He will spend time with the patients whenever he is available in the center.
Speciality:
In-Patient unit has Panchakarma theatres for men and women separately, Physiotherapy Unit, and Childrens play area. The hospital has an integral medicine manufacturing unit, catering to the needs of its patients for the purpose of the treatment. Medicines prepared by Sri Sarada Ayurvedic Hospital are not sold outside the hospital.
The hospital maintains a herbal garden containing around 150 herbal plants, which serves as learning tool for the new comers of Ayurveda. A small hut constructed in the middle of the herbal garden serves as an ambient environment for meditation.
Male masseurs will do massage for male and female messieurs will do massage for female patients. Discharge summary will be provided to every patient at the time of discharge. Internet facilities are available in the hospital campus. Those who are admitted in the guest house will be provided a separate phone.
Treatments:
The patient after careful examination by the doctor will be advised for Panchakarma treatment in the inpatient section of the hospital. The treatment whether Panchakarma or internal medicines alone, needed will be decided only after thorough investigation and examinations by the physician. Procedures like oil massage and nasya are not done during heavy rain.

We function all seven days of the week, and our working timings: 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m and 3:00 p.m. - 7 p.m.
EDUCATION:
Ayurvedic doctors are welcome to come and stay with Dr. L.Mahadevan to learn practical aspects of the science. Doctor will train the students in clinical medicines based on tridosha siddhanta. Students are requested to pay for food and accommodation.
Food can be taken either from the mess or from outside. If they take food from mess, it will be around Rs.75/- per person, three times (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner) per day.
The room rent of Rs.500/- will be charged for accommodation. Good, clean accommodation will be provided. Ladies will be given separate, safe accommodation. Men will be provided room in the ward.
FOOD:
A simple vegetarian south Indian meal will be provided. Some people appreciate this food and though it is difficult to provide a variety of food for all, as it is in a small village. So those who want very personalized meal, can cook by bringing required utensils etc, including LPG. Purified mineral water will be provided in the campus. If the patient requires fruits or corn flake, etc that will be provided. But they have to pay extra.
ACCOMMODATION:
We provide the number of rooms are; Regular – 10, A/c Deluxe – 4, and A/c Suite type - 2 (1-Large, 1-Small).
Regular room - Well spacious room accommodating two persons, with colour TV, mineral water facility and attached bath room. Premium small - Spacious room for one person accommodation, with colour TV, mineral water facility, attached bath room, air conditioner requirement as per the patients need [Situated near the out patient unit].
Premium Large - Large spacious room with three beds, with colour TV, mineral water facility, attached bath room with hot water facility, air conditioner requirement as per the patients need [Situated near the out patient unit].
Deluxe - Elegant room with two beds, with colour TV, mineral water facility, attached bath room with hot water facility, air conditioner requirement as per the patients need.
PRICE RANKING:
Approximate food expense for one person including Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be around Rs.75/- per day.
Regular - Rs.300 per day, Premium small with A/c - Rs.750 per day, Premium small without A/c - Rs.550 per day, Premium large with A/c - Rs.1000 per day, Premium large without A/c - Rs.800 per day, Deluxe with A/c - Rs.1200 per day, and Deluxe without A/c - Rs.900 per day.
Approximate expenditure for three weeks will be around Rs.35000/-(Treatment charges, medicines, doctor fee and 1 month take home medicines).
Car, Taxi charges, Lab investigations charges are extra, on the day of admission an advance amount of Rs 10,000/- should be paid, foreigners are requested to pay only in Indian Money, we will not accept credit card or traveler’s cheque, we will not accept cheque or dollars, we do not have ATM facility in our village. You have to go to Nagercoil, the nearby town to convert the money.
